Ortelio Martinez

Ortelio Martinez, 97 of Harrison passed away at home on January 31, 2021.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Mr. Martinez at the Galante Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Ave. Caldwell on Wednesday from 6-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church in Harrison on Thursday at 10 AM. Those attending mass are asked to meet directly at church Thursday morning. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park.

Born in Cuba, Ortelio lived in Newark and Belleville before moving to Harrison. Mr. Martinez had many jobs throughout his life, and proudly worked his way up to a position at Fisher Scientific in Fair Lawn before his retirement.

Ortelio was a fun loving man who was dedicated to his family. He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, and playing scratch-off tickets. Mr. Martinez also treasured time spent sipping his espresso, watching planes land at Newark Airport. A fastidious gentleman who liked having things his way, every butcher in Newark knew Ortelio.

Ortelio was the beloved husband to the late Rosaura (nee Diaz) Martinez. He was the cherished uncle of Rosemary Machado, dear great-uncle of Matthew Machado, Meghan Cuppari and Myles Machado, and adoring great-great uncle of Savannah. He is also survived by many other loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
