Peter Michael DeMaio

Peter Michael DeMaio, 82 of Surf City passed away on January 3, 2025.

Peter was originally from Newark as so many were. He grew up looking after his mother Madeline and his two sisters Joanie and Beverly. He was a hard worker all his life. Early on he worked as a bar tender where he met his wife Lucille. He then entered the Iron Workers Union where he worked until his retirement.

He bought a little shore house in Long Beach Island where he enjoyed his children and especially his grandchildren. He loved to take them fishing and crabbing and to his favorite ice cream parlor. On retirement he and Lucille built a beautiful home on that property where his family could all come and enjoy one another, the beach and delicious meals. It was truly his happy place. He continued to live there after his wife’s passing in 2021 and until his passing.

He is survived his sons Joseph and Johnny and daughter Lisa Mitros. His other daughter Camille passed a short time ago. His sisters Joan Rowand and Beverly Carragher and niece Debbie and her husband Dave Peck and their son Dylan and his nephew Robert who also passed a short time ago. He was adored and loved immensely by his four grandchildren Samantha, CJ, Danny and Andrew and will be missed each and every day. He was the BEST grandpa his grandchildren could have ever asked for and was fiercely proud of each and every one of them.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Peter at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Thursday January 9 from 5-9 PM, with a funeral service being celebrated at 8:30 PM. Cremation will be held privately.
