Ralph Malavarca 83, born in Newark, a  long time resident of Springfield, N.J. passed away peacefully on Monday August 26 ^th , 2013.

The funeral will be from the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Ave. Union, on Friday at 8:30 am. The funeral mass is at St. Rose of Lima Church in Short Hills at 10 am. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair. Visitation is on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. For directions or to send condolences visit galantefh.com.

He was the beloved husband of Helen (nee Di Benedetto) for 63 years. He was also the father of Alan Malavarca and his wife Susan. Ralph was also the proud Grandfather of Christopher Malavarca and his wife Meredith, and Nicole Malavarca. He is also survived by his sister Yolanda Caputo, and Brother Edmund Malavarca and his wife Kathryn, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Nicoletta (nee De Cesare) and Amedeo, his sister Carmella, and his brother Louis Malavarca.

Ralph served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the Blinded Veterans Administration.

Ralph lost his sight when he was 28. He accepted his blindness with great resolve. He graduated from Thomas Edison College with a degree in finance.
