Robert A. Marasco, 92, a dedicated family man, passed away on December 18, 2014.

Funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Tuesday at 8 AM. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation is on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

Born in 1922 to the late Pasquale and Rosina Marasco, Robert was a longtime Newark resident, like his family generations preceding him. While attending Central High School, he became a standout baseball player, ultimately turning semi-pro. He proudly served his country during WWII in the Coast Guard, seeing action in both the North Atlantic and the South Pacific theaters.

Robert began his career as a plumber, moving up the management ranks throughout his 33 years, retiring as the Chief of Modernization at the Newark Housing Authority. He and his wife Lucille retired to Spring Lake thereafter.

Robert was very community minded, serving as President of the West Side Boys Club, West Side Commissioner for the Robert Treat Council of the Boy Scouts of America, as well as a member of many local Fraternal Organizations. He was also an active volunteer at Sacred Heart Church in Vailsburg for many years.

He was very proud that all three of his sons became Eagle Scouts.

Robert was the beloved husband of the late Lucille (nee DiNorcia); loving father of Robert P. Marasco, Frank J. Marasco and his wife Rebecca, and Gregory G. Marasco and his wife Alice. He was the beloved grandfather of Robert G., Christina, Katherine, Michael, Mary Kate, Frank, Gina, Amanda and Anna. He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph and Frank Marasco.
