Rocco A. Genova, 89, of Union, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
Rocco, one of four children, was born in Newark, NJ to Rafael and Nicolina Genova. He proudly served in the US Navy on an aircraft carrier, The USS Midway. Rocco was an auto mechanic and owner of Rocky’s Chestnut Service Center in Union.
Well respected throughout the community, he built life-long relationships with his customers. He was a member of the Elks # 1583, Knights of Columbus # 4504 in Union, and Hillside Italian American Club. Additionally, he was a founder of the Kinsmen Club, where he met regularly with his brothers and relatives.
His brothers Julio and Peter Genova predeceased Rocco. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marie (nee Puzziferro), his loving children, Ralph (Ida) Genova, Annette (Joseph) Hochdorfer, Arthur (Jeanne) Genova, Nina (Rocco) DiGregorio, Marie Sullivan, and Rocco (Adriane) Genova, as well as his adoring 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and brother, Ralph Genova of Toms River.
Rocco was always the man with the biggest heart and biggest smile. His devotion to his family and his love of life will live on through each cherished memory of him.
The funeral will be on Tuesday @ 9:30 am from The Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ. A funeral mass will be offered on 11:00 am at St. Theresa’s Church in Kenilworth. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday from 4-8 pm
