Former Superintendent of Hillside, N.J. Schools

Rose S. Stahnten (nee Sena) 91, of Millburn, N.J. passed away on Monday January 29, 2018.

The funeral will be from the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Ave. Union, N.J. on Friday at 9 am.

The funeral mass will be in St. Rose of Lima Church in Short Hills, N.J. at 10 am.

Interment  will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, N.J.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 PM.

Born in Newark, N.J. to Frank and Mary Sena in 1926, She went on to graduate from Newark Westside High School.

She received her Bachelors Degree from Montclair State University, and her Graduate Degree from NYU.

She worked for the Hillside Board of Education for over 40 years.

She taught at Hurden Looker  School,

and after a 2 year stint as a professor at Jersey City State College

she returned to Hillside as Principal of Calvin Coolidge Elementary School, and George Washington Elementary School.

She later became Curriculum Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent , and retired as Superintendent of Schools.

She is survived by her son and Daughter in law

Arthur, and Joanne,

Grandsons William, and Michael and their wives Mary, and Melanie, her great grandson Maximus,

and her siblings Phyllis, Catherine, Joan, and Frank Junior.

She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Mary

and her husband Arthur.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Rose Stahnten Scholarship Fund.
