Rose A. Leonardis

Leonardis, Rose A. Passed away peacefully at her Newark home on April 9, 2012.


She was a lifelong resident of the Ironbound section.


Former proprietor of the Rose A. Leonardis Funeral Home, 102 Ferry Street, Newark, NJ. She became manager of the Funeral Home after the death of her father, Jerry Leonardis in 1953. Rose was a former graduate of the McAllister School of Embalming in 1950. Miss Leonardis was active in many organizations throughout her career as a funeral director prior to retirement in 1999. She was a member and treasurer of the Saint James Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, former member of the New Jersey Funeral Directors Association, Parish Council member of Saint James Church, former member and one of the founders of the Portuguese Scholarship Foundation of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a former member of the Independence Park Friday Club.

She leaves her daughter, Carol Ann Gesumaria, her sister Ann Gesumaria, She was the daughter of the late Jerry and Anna Leonardis and sister of the late Grace P. leonardis, her nephews Frank Gesumaria, Jr. and Dennis Gesumaria. Her niece Denise Gesumaria, great nephews Frank Gesumaria III, Dennis Gesumaria, Jr. and John Gesumaria. Also, great niece Jacquelyn Gesumaria. A special thanks to her care giver, Julia Marques.
