Rose Anna “Rosie” Porcella
Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, lived to see so many changes in the world
Rose Anna “Rosie” Porcella (nee Capaccio), formally of Springfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 in the Inglemoor Rehabilitation and Care Center in Livingston, New Jersey, on Saturday, May 27, 2017, with her family and caregivers by her side. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rose’s wake at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Avenue, Union, New Jersey, on Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 4:00-8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 2 , 2017 at St. James Church Springfield at 10:30 AM followed by her Entombment Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, New Jersey.
Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Rose also lived in Point Pleasant and East Hanover. She was a quintessential homemaker who took great pride and joy in in being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her home was her “castle,” which she meticulously cared for until late into her life. It was her family and home that meant the most to her.
Rose was the daughter of James and Anna Capaccio and one of nine siblings. She was predeceased by all of them, except one sister-in-law, Virginia Capaccio; Philomena (Mae) and husband Nicholas, Thomas and wife Carol, Anthony, Joseph, Lucille and husband Louis, August and wife Virginia, Ella and Theresa and husband Vincent. Rose married Nicholas Porcella on April 28, 1940. They were married for almost 60 years when he died in July 1998.
She is survived and will be missed by her son, Charles Porcella and wife Joann; daughter, Anna Mae Stefanelli (Porcella) and husband, Gerald Stefanelli; grandsons, Mark Porcella and wife Doreen, Anthony Porcella, Justin Stefanelli and wife Lauren, and Gregg Stefanelli; great-granddaughters, Melissa Porcella, Isabella Stefanelli and Cecelia Stefanelli and many extended family members.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the many wonderful caregivers at the Inglemoor Rehabilitation and Care Center where “Rosie” resided the past three years. In addition, a thank you is extended to her caregivers from the Saint Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Livingston, New Jersey, who assisted in her care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 Saint Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or Saint Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange, New Jersey, 07052.
