Dr. Teresita Bobila Brillantes, Founding President of UST Medicine Class 1967 Foundation, Dies at 69
Dr. Teresita B. Brillantes MD (nee Bobila), 69, of Short Hills, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 after a battle with cancer.
She was born in 1944 in the countryside of Abra, Philippines while her parents were fleeing Japanese forces during World War II. She established the University of Santo Tomas Medicine Class of 1967 Foundation. Dr. Brillantes practiced Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases for more than 40 years in Newark, New Jersey including St. Michael’s hospital, St. James, ILA, and Greystone, and in private practice. She was the Director of the Department of Medicine of St. James hospital from 1992 to 1994. Since the 1990s, she passionately volunteered with charitable medical missions to the Philippines. On a 1992 mission, she and her team contributed medical aid and distributed rice, food, and medicine at a camp for the survivors of the Mount Pinatubo volcanic eruption.
She was devoted to her friends and loved her animal companions. Her home was featured in the 1981 Star Ledger feature on Oriental home design. Dr. Brillantes was a faithful member of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Christian Life Community until her death. She is survived by her children Rosanna, Gerardo, and Meliza; sons in-law John and Matthew; and grandchildren Nina and Ometeotl.

The funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave., Union on Tuesday at 8:30 am. Funeral Mass is at St. Rose of Lima Church, Short Hills at 10 am. Interment will be private. Visitation is on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
