Thaddeus J. Cop, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, passed away on February 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, hard work, and love that will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew him. Born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Thaddeus spent his formative years in Union, an area that held a special place in his heart before eventually relocating to Pennsylvania.
For over 40 years, Thaddeus was a devoted Union Representative for Local 863, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to his fellow workers. He began his career operating a forklift, showcasing not only his skills but also his determination to advance as he worked his way up the ranks. As a shop steward at Wakefern for 45 years before retiring in 2012.
Thaddeus also proudly served in the Army, stationed in Germany from 1964 to 1966. As a sergeant, he specialized as a demolition expert as well as a mechanic specialist, a testament to his technical skills and leadership abilities.
A man of many passions, Thaddeus found joy in working and repairing cars, a hobby that exemplified his hands-on spirit and affinity for craftsmanship.
Thaddeus is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Roslyn (nee Schlakman). He leaves behind his beloved children, Vanessa, her husband Dominic, Matthew and wife Victoria, Mark and the late Paul, . His legacy extends to his grandchildren, including James, Davina and husband Brian, Jessica and husband Nick, Joshua and his wife Alex, Sara, Tyler, and Kyleigh, who brought immense joy to his life. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Dominic, Charlette, June and one great-grandchild expected to join the family soon. He is also survived by his brother, John, and his stepchildren, Robbie and the late Neil and Ilena Essenfeld, who will all miss him dearly.
Thaddeus was predeceased by his parents Edward and Estelle Cop and brother, Edward Cop Jr.
Family and friends will gather to honor Thaddeus's life on Tuesday March 4, 2025. Visitation will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Galante Funeral Home, located at 2800 Morris Ave, Union, NJ. Following the visitation, loved ones will proceed to Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth, NJ, for burial.
As we remember Thaddeus J. Cop, let us celebrate a life well-lived, marked by dedication to family, a passion for service, and a heart full of love. He will be deeply missed but will always remain a guiding light in the lives of those he touched.
