Retired ILA Longshoreman, 83

Mr.  Urbano Manuel Diaz a 38 yr resident of Union, NJ passed away on Friday Feb 14, 2014  at the age of 83.

Born in Santa Clara, Cuba on Oct 31, 1930 he came to the US in Dec of 1967 to start a better life for himself, his wife and his unborn child. Lived in Newark, NJ for 9 yrs before moving to Union in 1976.

He loved the NY Yankees, Duke Basketball and playing dominoes where he won several Tournaments at the Elizabeth Liberty Square Senior Center.

He enjoyed following his grandkids’ sports activities including Baseball, Soccer, Cheerleading and Dance competitions. He traveled extensively with his wife of 53 years on many cruises which took them to over 50 countries.

Surviving are his wife Daisy, son Bill, daughter-in-law Suzanne and his 2 grandkids Nicholas and Victoria. Also surviving are his two brothers Gilbert and Rigoberto, godsons Gilbert Jr and Jorge Luis along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Ave on Tues Feb 18 th from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Funeral services will be on Wed Feb 19 th at 9 am.The funeral mass will be in St. Michael’s Church 1212 Kelly St corner of Vauxhall Road in Union, NJ at 10:15 am. Entombment will follow in Hollywood Memorial Park 1500 Stuyvesant Avenue in Union, N.J.
