Victor Quagliariello 98 a long time resident of Union passed away at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Mountainside on February 11, 2012
Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1913 he was the second oldest in a large family which settled on a farm in Edison. After graduating from Metuchen High School,when Victor expressed his desire to go to college, his father told him he had to get a job to help the family deal with the Great Depression. He found temporary work at the local post office and so impressed a patron, that she sought him out after the temporary position ended. At her recommendation, her husband hired him to work at the Cut Rite Wax Paper Company, which he owned. Within a year he had worked his way through almost every position at the factory and was named foreman. After 32 years at Cut Rite he worked for 12 years as a supervisor in the engineering department at Schering-Plough in Kenilworth.
A superb musician in his youth, he had his own musical group that played at dances and weddings in the late 1930's. In his later years, he followed with interest and supported the work of the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, NJ, which is the largest comprehensive pediatric rehabilitation hospital in the country.
He was predeceased by Matilda (nee Koseta) his wife of 55 years who died in 1995 and by Ann Loftus, his companion of 13 years. He is survived by his nephew and godson Salvatore Quagliariello of Edison and numerous other neices and nephews.
Funeral from the Galante Funeral Home 2800 Morris Ave.,Union on Wednesday at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Springfield at 9:15 AM .Entombment at St. Gertrude Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday 4 to 6 PM .
