William L. "Sonny" Ahles, 87 of Cranford passed away on March 25, 2019.

Funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Thursday at 8:15 AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Church in Union at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. Visitation is on Wednesday from 3-9 PM at the funeral home.

Born in Jersey City, Sonny was a longtime resident of Union City until moving to Cranford in 2016. He worked as a warehouseman for American Can Company in Jersey City until 1971, when he started working at Wakefern in Elizabeth and Cranbury until he retired in 1991. Sonny was a former member of the Steelworkers Union, and of the Teamsters Union. An avid fan of the New York Mets, William was a wine connoisseur, and was especially fond of Paisano.

William was the beloved husband of the late Mary (nee Tedeschi) Ahles; loving father of Robert Ahles and his wife Nery, and William "Billy" Ahles. He was predeceased by his brother Raymond Ahles and his sister Lorraine Kirczow.
