William F. “Butch” Burkert
Butch passed away peacefully on Monday February 27,2023 with his family at his bedside.
Butch, a longtime Hillside resident and US Army veteran, owned a gas station in Hillside for 10 years, and worked as a banquet manager for over 30 years at various establishments until he retired.
He was born in Pittstown, Pennsylvania on November 9, 1939, and was raised in Newark before moving to Hillside. Butch graduated from Hillside High School. He remained in Hillside and raised his family there.
Butch is predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Philomena (nee De Pasquale) Burkert and his brother John. Surviving are his children, Billy and wife Annella, Kevin, Colleen and her husband Joe Calavano, Kenneth and his wife Renee and Darlene. Butch is also survived by his brothers, Joe and Michael and his sisters, Margaret Kalemba and Marion Brauss. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family would like to acknowledge their love and companionship to Uncle Mike and his wife Rosvita.
Cremation is private.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at the Galante Funeral Home on Thursday March 2 from 2-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Friday March 3 at St. Lucy Church 118 7th Ave., Newark.
