William E. Helwig, 86 of Holmdel, formerly of Union, passed away on May 19, 2024.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for William at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Wednesday May 22 from 4-8 PM, with a Masonic Service held at 7PM. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 AM. Cremation will be held privately. Born in Irvington, William lived in Summit before becoming a longtime Union resident. He moved with his family to Holmdel in 1987. William proudly served as a United States Marine, and in his younger years, as a firefighter in Union. William was a lifelong self-employed entrepreneur. He owned and operated Accountable Accountants in Union for the past 45 years. A beloved mentor, William was loved by all, and had a generous and selfless spirit. A gift he passed along to his children, his family and friends. All those he touched, will never forget his kindness, dedication and care that he put into assisting them in their times of need.
A man with boundless energy and intellect, William was also a successful restaurateur, and notably owned and operated a detective agency, another business where he found success doing what he enjoyed.A proud, longtime mason, William was a Past Master at Franklin Century Lodge, later Atlas Pythagoras Lodge #10 in Westfield in 1980.William was the beloved husband of Louise (nee Iorio) Helwig; loving father of Donna Marie Mahon (Kevin) and William F. Helwig (Yolanda); cherished grandfather of Joseph Rocco Burdi (Janice), Marialana Malafronte (Joseph), Allesondra Helwig and Ariana Helwig. He was the proud great-grandfather of Jace Burdi, Jared Burdi, Angelo Malafronte and Dominick Malafronte; and dear brother of Gwendolyn Misurella, Florence Schaefer (Walter) and Deborah Gottfried (Michael), and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
